removing loading caps in 604s

I've read that a few here have removed the loading caps in 604s and added felt damping. What sonic advantage does this have? Are there any tradeoffs? Do I simply remove the back cover on my 604Gs (3 screws), remove the cap and line the cover with felt?

No reason you can't try it yourself with your favorite music passages as a test.

The cap. mod. is rather easy and perhaps you could use velcro or some dabs of weatherstrip adhesive that is easily removable from the felt and loading cap back should you wish to revert back to the loading cap. use and original look.

Try it, I think you will like the difference the mod. makes.

By reoving the loading cap in a 604 you will do two things: 1, slightly reduce the power handling, 2, lower the diaphragm resonance and eliminate cap reflection thereby making the driver sound a bit sweeter. Unless you are playing extreme levels, this is worthwhile. Jim
